General | Training for Lawyers on SBA Loans and Commercial/Residential Leases
Assist your community and volunteer to answer legal issues on SBA Financing Loans and CARES Act
MCBA is offering a training session for lawyers who want to volunteer and field calls from our community business owners, commercial landlords, commercial tenants, and residential landlord and tenants.

There is a growing need requesting free legal guidance and MCBA is coordinating an effort to train volunteer lawyers who can answer inquiries to business owners, employers, and residents impacted by COVID-19.

The training will cover the following areas:
  • Multiple forms of SBA financing under CARES Act for commercial tenants.
  • Payroll tax deferments.
  • How lenders are working with landlords.
  • How tenants receive cash from the federal government in April, and enhanced unemployment insurance benefits.
  • Precautions for tenants organizing for a rent strike and/or just refusing to pay rent. The end result ultimately will be an eviction when the courts open. Right now there is eviction protection locally only through May 31.
Training is required to be included in the roster of volunteers assigned to incoming inquiries.

The program is not intended to be a Lawyer Referral Program and lawyers who want to volunteer after the training will need to sign a waiver.

Social Connections and Humor During Our Shelter in Place
Connecting

Join us to connect with your colleagues before the weekend begins. Bring your favorite beverage and device to share greetings. Exchange messages in our Chat Room. And query the crowd on best practices working remotely. There will be good stories to share.

If this is your first time joining a Zoom social, email MCBA and we will walk you through best practices so you will be a pro at joining other virtual remote meetings.

Fun Section Challenge

Encourage fellow members of your practice section(s) to attend the Quarantini! We are challenging each section to see which one can bring the most members to the party. Join us for our virtual happy hour and the section with the most members participating will be awarded the MCBA Spirit Award--which will not consist of actual spirits, just the spirited.

Editor's Introduction
A Message from the Editor: Seeking Authors
By Robert Rosborough
Greetings Fellow Pandemic Travelers, I hope everyone is staying physically and mentally healthy as all of us navigate this new terrain of life and practice. The March issue of the Marin Lawyer about law practice management came out just a few days before…we all had to learn how to manage our practices in new and unexpected ways. As we and MCBA adapt to a more virtual practice, the Marin Lawyer is looking towards its June issue, which has a theme of the environment.  More >
