The Marin County Bar Association kicked off November with an evening that brought together books, community, and great conversation. On November 6, 2025, MCBA members and guests met up at Book Passage for a private MCBA Book Talk that turned into the best kind of literary field trip.
The Book Passage team rolled out the welcome mat with a thoughtfully curated two-page list of reading recommendations—fiction, nonfiction, thrillers, music history, kids' books, and gorgeous coffee-table editions. Some highlights? Life & Death & Giants, Heart the Lover, The Glass Eel, Expensive Basketball, Letter from Japan, Mother Mary Comes to Me, and Culpability.
One real standout was Wings: The Story of a Band on the Run—the new book about Paul McCartney reinventing himself in the 1970s after the Beatles broke up. We heard about a super limited edition (just 175 numbered copies!) that's signed by McCartney himself and comes in a deluxe cloth case with screen-printed album artwork. Pretty cool, but pricey at $3,500.
The staff also showed off some unique finds like Butterflies of the Bay Area and (Slightly) Beyond, filled with beautiful butterfly illustrations throughout.
The list featured some eye-catching coffee-table books too—Stephen Curry's Shot Ready, Michelle Obama's The Looks, and the New York Times puzzle editor's colorful NYT Games Puzzle Mania! Perfect for your holiday gift lists for sports fans, design lovers, or puzzle addicts.
Children's books like Perla & the Pirate sparked conversations about reading with grandkids and keeping storytelling traditions alive. With so many genres covered, everyone found something new for their winter reading pile or holiday shopping list.
After the event, MCBA members headed to Flores restaurant for Thirsty Thursday. By the
end of the night, people left with a great reading list—and even better, stronger connections with each other. That's exactly what MCBA community events are all about. Got ideas for other gatherings? We'd love to hear them—reach out anytime!
