MCBA offers Sections in 12 legal practice areas. Each Section provides continuing legal education (CLE) and offers networking opportunities tailored to its members.

Section Chairs

Alternative Dispute Resolution

The ADR Section (Alternative Dispute Resolution) works to further the knowledge of its members by developing and implementing programs and training in alternative dispute resolution, and to offer Continuing Legal Education (CLE). ADR Section members are lawyers and nonlawyers who serve as mediators, arbitrators, and neutral case evaluators. Attorneys and other professionals who advocate for their clients in ADR proceedings are welcome to join the section.

Barristers

The Barristers Section provides attorneys in practice for ten years or less with networking, education, and mentoring opportunities. Barristers activities also provide a forum for new and young lawyers to develop leadership skills and to interact with Judges, experienced attorneys, and other Barristers members. Mentorship programs are available for our Barristers.

Business Law

The Business Law Section provides a forum and Continuing Legal Education (CLE), covering substantive areas within the practice of business and corporate law including current issues in tax, labor, securities, and corporate law. The Business Law section supports members in practice development in business and corporation law.

Construction Law

The Construction Law Section addresses the legal aspects of engineering, architecture, and the construction process, and provides Continuing Legal Education (CLE). Section members keep abreast of construction law developments on a variety of topics including delay and impact claims, insurance coverage, and more.

Criminal Law

The Criminal Law Section helps further the achievement of fair, speedy, and effective administration of criminal justice. Prosecutors, private defense counsel, judges, law professors, correctional and law enforcement personnel, law students, public defenders, and other criminal justice professionals are encouraged to join. The Criminal Law Section provides members with continuing legal education (CLE) programs and a network of support.

Diversity

The Diversity Section promotes the values of diversity and inclusion throughout the Marin County legal community. It also promotes the interests of residents of color and other underrepresented groups in the county. The Section provides Continuing Legal Education (CLE) on the elimination of bias in the legal system.

Estate Planning, Trust and Probate

The Estate Planning and Probate Section covers substantive and procedural law governing trustees, probate estates, guardianships, conservatorship and other matters affecting trusts and estates and administration. The section offers Continuing Legal Education (CLE) and works closely with the bench to improve the administration of justice in the Probate Court.

Family Law

The Family Law Section provides attorneys Continuing Legal Education (CLE) and updates on procedure, support, tax considerations, community property, and the legal and psychological aspects of child custody. The Section maintains an ongoing liaison with the bench, legal aid and family law providers in the Marin County.

Intellectual Property

The Intellectual Property Section provides continuing legal educational (CLE) programs, proposes and/or comments upon changes in intellectual property law, and serves as a forum for the exchange of new ideas and networking among its members.

Labor and Employment Law

The Employment and Labor Law Section is comprised of a diverse group of members of the Employment Law community. The section provides a forum and offers continuing legal education (CLE) programs for neutrals and management, and labor and employee attorneys to meet and discuss current developments affecting their practices.

Litigation

The Litigation Section provides a forum for civil trial attorneys to hone their advocacy skills, network and socialize. It presents seminars on trial practice and provides instruction and real-world advice on the art and science of trial practice. The section holds programs of interest for civil practitioners of all experience levels and abilities.

Probate Litigation

The Trust and Estate Litigation Section covers and supplements substantive and procedural law governing contested 17200 Petitions, Petition for Removal, Contests, 850 petitions, Objections to Petitions for (any requested relief or orders) requiring an evidentiary hearing, any contested matter subject to a settlement conference, any trust and estate matter that may go to mediation or another form of ADR, Elder Abuse both physical and financial and other matters affecting disputes over the distribution of trusts and estates. The section offers Continuing Legal Education (CLE) and works closely with the bench to improve the administration of justice in the Probate Court.

Real Property

The Real Property Section provides a forum to exchange information with other real property practitioners, offers continuing legal education (CLE), programs on legislative updates in real property and issues advancing the specialty practice of real estate law.

Tax Law

The Tax Law Section concerns all facets of tax law practice and procedure.
